Even though this course focused on estrogen as it relates to breast cancer, the attributes of Green Tea are more than impressive and are not limited to breast cancer tumors.
Green Tea:
- Is rich in polyphenols which interfere with the synthesis of (too much) estrogen
- Interferes with the majority of steps of carcinogenesis and metastasis
- The catechins in green tea increase DNA repair (ALL cancers are caused by DNA damage/replication) and support DNA replication of healthy cells while inhibiting the replication of neoplastic cells.
- The ability to inhibit TNF-a release (Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha D), is considered to be one of the most important mechanisms of the anti-promotion activity of green tea
- It’s an anti-oxidant
- It’s a down-regulator of (decreases) NF-kB, a protein complex found in most cells. NF-kB is involved in all stages of carcinogenesis and is considered the Master of Inflammation. Incorrect regulation of NF-κB (having too much) has been linked to cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, septic shock, viral infection, and improper immune development. When shopping for Green Tea quality is important ~ Organic is a good place to start. I like Organic India's Tulsi Green Tea (combining the benefits of Holy Basil + Green Tea) or Mighty Leaf Jasmine Green Tea.
